I have become quite a LIST girl. I just cant remember what the heck i am doing from day to day! Forgot batteries for the camera (but I have them now), forgot that my farrier was coming on Monday morning, forgot to get gas last week, the items go on and on. I like my list, but if your forget your list, then I am in big trouble! Some things coming up-
October 10, I will be speaking to the Pony and Saddle Club in Beaver Dam! They wanted to give me a donation of money and also some hay! how cool is that? And I only have to go and speak about my horses! hmmmm... Do I like to talk about my horses and rescue?? Oh yes, maam I do! Plus meeting so many new horsey people. i love that. So many of them out there. I may not remember their names, but most times I remember what horse they have! Selective remembering? HA! Anyhow, then the Trick or Treat Fund Raiser at Saddle Ridge Stables in Oregon is on October 25! I also will be having a few of my friends coming over on Sunday to brainstorm some ideas for my big fundraiser in June 2010. i will need plenty of ideas, donations and volunteers to make this day a big success! It will be so much fun! I have so many ideas!
I WILL be putting on my list that I have to take pictures of the new filly I got on Sunday- She has let both me and Rebecca touch her now. She shouldnt take too long in making her love the touch of a human! I just think she was neglected more so than abused. She is already eating alot of hay and seems to be gaining a tad bit of weight even in just a few days!

Bad Camera!
Ok, so I was going to take pictures of the new filly i have. I got a suggestion of calling her Raven, so i started to call her that. My camera' battery died on me! What is up with that? i only used this last set a few times, turned off the camera and let it sit for about 3 weeks. Turned it on last night and it said batteries are dead! Come on! Tick me off! So I will get batteries tonight and then take more pictures. Trouble is - i will be home late and now that its getting darker sooner, i may not get good pictures or any at all if it is dark! So pictures will come, just later.
How about it getting colder now? Dont we get alittle bit of 60's before going into the 40's? I am still in my shorts and a T-Shirt in the mornings because I am moving around and I dont get all that cold.
I went in with the new filly last night. She loves her grain and i took out the pail from her eating it and she followed me - alittle bit closer than I would like, since I dont know or trust her yet. She is an eater, for sure! She did take grain out of the pail with me holding it last night and this morning. I also gave her pieces of apple and she liked those too. Wasnt too sure of them, but she liked them. She also turned her butt towards me this morning so I had to get after her about that. Have to nip that in the bud right away!
I got a nice donation from a lady named Nancy from Washington yesterday. She said that a couple who got married in Las Vegas asked that donations to horse rescue groups be made in their names in lieu of wedding gifts. What a nice idea! i got to 'meet' Nancy via email. I looked on the internet and put up Second Chance Horse Rescue and it came up with a few. I think she probably wanted to give to the one who is in Washington, but she was nice and wasnt disappointed in giving to me after she learned I am in Wisconsin! That was so very nice of her. Thank you Nancy!
October 25, Sunday will be a trick or treat fund raiser based at Saddle Ridge Stables in Oregon for my rescue. You can go to a few of the stables and also to some horse homes to get candy all dressed up with you and your horse. All proceeds will be donated to my rescue. Will help with my hay bill! So there will be a fee to participate and then we will go out to the places, meet back at Saddle Ridge and judge for best costume and most candy and one raffle. We have some nice prizes to give out! Hoping for certificates from Dover, Schneiders and Mounds! I also have a Breyers horse figure to give out as well! Should be so much fun. So please contact me if you want to participate! The place is big enough to bring in your trailers and horses if you dont live near by. We will start at 1pm so it will be light enough. We dont want to take horses out in the dark!
I am also planning a big fund raiser for June 2010. I hope to have it at a special place! We will need volunteers to help out so please let me know if you can help with this! I will know more details after we get together this weekend to brainstorm ideas for this event. I want more than just horse owners to come out. It will be geared for families with kids who dont normally get to be around horses. We will have food, drinks, a band, face painting, horse rides and a bigger event in the arena for horses with special talents! We will also have vets to give talks and also have correct ways in grooming your horse, other basic classes as well. lots of ideas! Should be so much fun. So that is my update for the day! Have a great one and hug your horses!

New horse!
Yesterday, I got an phone early in the morning. A man who has horses not far from me asked me to take a 2 year old black and white Missouri Fox Trotter filly. He told me that she has been to 3 different homes in her lifetime already. With me, that makes 4. She was totally wild when he got her 3 weeks ago. Was able to halter her and lead her around some. She is quite skinny and smallish. She has these long legs though! He told me he has no time for her and he cant keep her. I told him to bring her over. How much trouble can she be? Well she is very scared and apprehensive of people. I was able to get her to sniff my hand, but that is all about it for now. She does know grain because she went right over to it when i brought some in for her. I threw in some carrots on the ground so she could have them for later. Not sure if she ate them or not yet. She is in my round pen until I can get her to be handled some. Harley and Cheyenne are out on my lawn and Harley totally hates her while Cheyenne stands by her all of the time. Good old Cheyenne! He told me she is a kicker and i saw that first hand when one of my dogs rushed by her and she tried to kick him. She is quick but so is my dog, Hunter! Will have to watch that i guess! She is a pretty thing, looks quite sound, but is all scuffed up when he tried to get her to join with him in his round pen. She never did. I guess she took a tumble and her face is pretty badly scraped up. But it is healing. She has the sweetest little neigh! I will get some pictures of her for tomorrow. She has no name, he called her horse! I have never had a trotter before, so i did look up some information regarding her. What I dont know is how long they will grow in age. She probably wont get very big looking at her body, but her legs are very long in proportion to her body. And i will tell a bit more after she gains some weight. I am so used to my meaty Quarter horse babies! Her pasturns are a bit up, not like a QH at all. She has a bit of a roach back as well, but not bad. Longer neck. but she does look like the pictures I have seen on the internet. I hope everyone will look at her and give me suggestions on a name! Its been awhile since I have had a horse with no people interaction or skills. Well, not that long, but long enough! So Rebecca and I will be working with her alot in the next few weeks to get her to trust me. She is a very pretty girl. How is it that this baby has now had 4 homes?? Quite sad! MFT arent cheap either! No one worked with her at all except the last guy. Why would you not work or at least pet your foals? My goodness! Well she is a curious one and doesnt seem to be vicious which is good for me! So pictures coming tomorrow. You can tell me what you think of her conformationally!

Pictures?
Top Picture is Harley- a 20 year old TB gelding who is my latest project. He needs about another 150 pounds. Wish I could say that!
Middle Picture is Duke and Gabe - I still have Duke and Gabe went to Denise and her family in Sparta.
Bottom picture- Baby Breeze (yearling) laying down for a nap while Honey and Kobb watch him. Boy he is a pistol. He has been harder to train than any other one of my babies! Beautiful and smart boy!
Will i continue?
Hello Everyone!
I think I need to start a blog. I did last year and just never added more than 2 days worth! But now I am going to do it so that people can stay in touch with me, give me ideas, concerns, whatever they can to help me with the rescue. I am a very small rescue that began in 2005. I got my first rescue horse, Shayla who was a 26 year old Belgian mare who was very neglected and abused in her home and work. She has huge absesses, needed dental work and of course about 300 pound of weight to her! She is in my rescue pamphlet. I will see about trying to add her picture on here.
I now have 12 horses. That is very good for me. I am full up and very full up when I have 14 horses. I hope to have more someday, but until donations and my paycheck get bigger, then it will be around the numbers I have now. Some of them are available for adoption, some are not. I would eventually like to have just a sponsorship of horses and keep them with me until they go on to better pastures. Let them live out their lives with me expecting nothing from them except to live how they want to. I am divorced, work full time and take care of the horses in my spare time. I love my life. Wish i could win the lottery, but it never happens! I do get $2.00 each week, one buck for each drawing day, but it hasnt happened yet! HA! Actually I am in a pool with 3 other girls and we have been getting Powerball for over 2 years now. So we are due! Boy what I could do with that money! I have wonderful friends that come over and help me with the horses on weekends. They started out just contacting me to help with horses and now have turned into such good friends. They love horses and have supported me for years now.
My website is www.2ndchancehorserescue.org I have been working on it, and have worked on it this morning, but I dont see the changes yet. I will be most unhappy if the changes didnt work! Its not a hard website to change, but just time consuming! Takes a long time to download picturs and then save and then publish. And i am not a good computer person. i just like to turn on the computer and then use it! I dont want to learn new stuff! But I guess I have to - to stay in the real world huh? Each day I will either discuss one of my horses or tell you about friends that I have. If you would like to read about our lives, that is great! Have any suggestions? Great as well. I am a non-profit organization and if you would like to donate to my rescue, that would be awesome. I welcome anyone who would like to come and visit my home and horses. I love to have more volunteers. So if you are interested in coming to volunteer, i would welcome that as well! So here we are! I should have time to blog a bit later as well.
